Details of Priscilla Presley new 2025 memoir, Softly As I Leave You: Life After Elvis

As Priscilla Presley approaches her 80th birthday on May 24, she has groundbreaking news to share. The cover of her second memoir called Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis has just been revealed. This book will pick up where she left off from her first book, Elvis and Me.

Even though this is supposed to be about her life after Elvis, an insider explained that Priscilla will also reveal “never before shared intimate stories about her romantic life with Elvis.” While her first book focused on her relationship and marriage to Elvis, ending with his death, there were many details left out of the book. As a result, there are most likely a lot of things she could reveal about her relationship with Elvis that wasn’t in her first book.

Probably the biggest accomplishment that Priscilla will be remembered for in her role as Elvis’ ex-wife is how she led the way for Graceland to become a successful tourist destination, becoming the second most visited home in the U.S. after the White House. Priscilla was the de facto spokesperson for Graceland for 40 years, and she also was a consultant for multiple Elvis-related projects like the 2015 album, If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The cover photo of her 2025 book is from the day in 1982 when Priscilla held a press conference at Graceland to announce that the home would be open for public tours.

Just in the past two years, there have been 3 significant books released by people that had important relationships with Priscilla – her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley; her former business partner, Olivia Bis; and her former boyfriend, Mike Stone (My Time with Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley). These three books offer a mix of positive and negative views of Priscilla. For example, Lisa Marie’s posthumous memoir (From Here to the Great Unknown: A Memoir) reveals a tense and difficult relationship with her mother, while Olivia Bis: A Memoir from East Los Angeles to Beverly Hills, offers an empathetic insider’s look into working with Priscilla as her partner in their 1970s clothing boutique, Bis & Beau. One can only assume that Priscilla is anxious to respond and tell her side of the story about her life as the ex-wife of The King of Rock and Roll.

The official book description of Priscilla Presley’s new book states (in part):
“During her ten years with Elvis, it became painfully apparent that she had no idea who she was outside Elvis’s world. The only way to find herself was to leave that world and seek a new life of her own, because leaving was the only way to survive, for herself and for her daughter. Softly, As I Leave You, is the deeply personal story of what Priscilla lost and what she found when she walked away from the man she loved.”

While most people only know about Priscilla’s connection to Elvis, in the almost 50 years since his death, she has established her own life as an actress and entrepreneur. She had her second child, a son named Navarone, in 1987 with her former partner, Marco Garibaldi Garcia. She co-starred in the hit TV series, Dallas, for 5 years from 1983 to 1988. She also co-starred in three movies of the blockbuster film series, The Naked Gun in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Currently, Priscilla has a lot going on, including being awarded the Colonel Aide De Camp award from the state of Tennessee, as well as a contentious lawsuit with former business partner, Brigitte Kruse. Following the release of her 2023 feature film, Priscilla, she has made many personal appearances around the US, and recently a March 2025 return to Germany where she first met Elvis in 1959.

It was announced one year ago in May 2024 on Publishers Weekly that Priscilla would be writing her second memoir which would focus on her life after Elvis. Topics will include “the passing of her daughter, Lisa Marie; Lisa Marie’s marriage to Michael Jackson; and forging her own identity as an actress and businesswoman.”

Priscilla Presley’s new memoir will be released on September 23, 2025.
