Watch: Elvis Presley honored with Presidential Medal of Freedom

On November 16, 2018, Elvis Presley was honored along with six other distinguished individuals with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the President of the United States.

This prestigious award is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, which may be awarded by the President to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors, said the official White House press release.

Setting ‘Elvis and Nixon’ straight: Elvis did not hate The Beatles

DVD-Elvis&NixonThe Elvis & Nixon film recently released on DVD, starring Kevin Spacey as Richard Nixon, is billed as a “comedy” about the infamous meeting between The King of Rock and Roll and President Nixon at the White House. While many will believe that this is an accurate representation of the circumstances surrounding the meeting, there is a chance that the film will be enforcing false stereotypes about Elvis, specifically about his view of The Beatles.

It doesn’t help that actor Michael Shannon, who portrays The King circa 1970, looks nothing like Presley except for the clothes and doesn’t even try to sound like him. Shannon’s voice is too high and doesn’t emit any hint of a Southern accent.
